Reiki is Life Force Energy and as such, it is always available to us to one degree or another, even if we are not aware of it. Once we begin on our healing path, we become aware of this Energy and invite it to work in us and to open us up to it even further. We can feel that by doing this, we are stepping nearer to a sense of wholeness, wellness and peace, which we will then be able to share with others.
Practitioners sometimes wonder if the flow of Reiki can be diminished or they may notice that it feels stronger at some times than at others. You may have even felt that there were times you could not sense Reiki flowing at all. Life Force Energy is flowing through all of us, so you need not be concerned that it has stopped. If you have been attuned to Reiki, the channel will not close and will always be available to you, though you do have the option of no longer using it, if you choose.
But can the flow of Reiki be restricted? There are circumstances that narrow the energy channels in your system, creating a slower, more restricted flow of energy. When negative emotions arise in response to a situation or out of a habit of thought or belief, the energy pathways constrict. These are the circumstances that contribute to disturbance in your energy system if they continue over time without being cleared and released. They lead to various types of illness in these situations.
Reiki does still flow during these negative emotions, but since the pathways become constricted, the flow is not felt as strongly. Also, negative emotions tend to feel very strong, so they may overshadow the sensations of anything more subtle. When you set your intention to offer Reiki to yourself (or another) when feeling an upsetting or constricting emotion, the emotion can begin to release and clear. It may not happen right away, but you are sending the energy to open the pathway back up, so that it doesn’t become blocked or remain constricted as long.
There is no need to fear negative or upsetting emotions, as they are only energy as well and are a part of human life. They will pass, if you allow them to. You may want to spend some time noticing, without judgement, the sensations in your body during an emotion. These are the areas that you experience and possibly hold emotion. Knowing this gives you valuable information about your personal energy system. You may also want to notice any thoughts that you attach to emotions as they flow through your body, again without judgement. If they are helpful and support your true beliefs and your life, then know that you would like to support that line of thought when you are calmer. If they are negative and only serve to add flames to the negative emotion, then do not feed them. Let them go and offer peace. This is not an easy practice, but with time, it will become easier.
Emotions that can restrict the flow of Reiki are:
- doubt or worry
- sadness or grief
- shame or guilt
- excessive excitement
Again, do not fear or worry when you are experiencing a negative or extreme emotion. Emotions are normal. Offer yourself Reiki and allow the emotional energy to pass. Know that all is well with you, even though it doesn’t feel that way at the moment. And rest assured that the Reiki energy is flowing, even if you don’t feel it right then.
