Spectacular athletic feats and Reiki have more in common than you may think…
If you’re familiar with basketball, you have probably heard of an off-the-backboard slam dunk (also known as an off-the-backboard alley-oop.). It’s when a player throws the ball off of the backboard, maneuvers around opponents, then jumps up, catching the ball as it bounces back and dunks it into the basket.
If you need a better visual, here’s an excellent example of the move in action:

So what does this have to do with Reiki? Well, because I spontaneously performed the Reiki equivalent of an off-the-backboard dunk a few days ago.
The Reiki counterpart to that clever move is sending distance healing to your near-future self.
Sending distance Reiki out is the initial toss. Then it bounces off of the backboard (which could be Source, The Infinite, God or whatever you want to call it). Finally, the Reiki comes back to you at the time you’ve specified (which is the jump, catch and slam dunk).
With this technique, the near-future works best, as it’s immensely useful if you know you may be encountering obstacles or need a little extra boost. It allows you to gracefully maneuver around challenges and score some points towards your goals.
For example, if you have a big presentation coming up for work, you can send distance Reiki to yourself when you wake up that morning. And you would Reiki just a few hours into the future, to yourself at the time of your presentation.
How I spontaneously came up with this concept:
The other day, as soon as I woke up (at around 6:30 A.M.), I sent distance Reiki to my “10 A.M. self.” At around 10 A.M. I was gauging how I felt, and I was feeling amazing. No surprise there. But then, when I went to grab tea, I saw this, beaming at me on the box…
Do signs get any more blatant? That is synchronicity at its finest. A brilliant hint from the Universe saying, “Hey look, this Reiki stuff is really working.”
It’s funny how magical life can be when you’re in tune.
How to perform “Off-the-backboard distance Reiki”:
(Preferably done upon waking, and aimed at yourself at some point later that day)
- Bring yourself into a meditative state using whatever techniques you prefer.
- Activate Reiki.
- Call on the distance symbol and draw it. (I like to chant it out loud three times)
- Call on any other symbols you want to use.
- Envision yourself at the time you want to send Reiki.
- Get out there, spread love and make the most of your life.
Have fun with some energy slam dunks.
One love.
