Easy Method To Improve Visualization Skills

Hi Friends. I have gotten some questions sent to me from people who love the idea of color work and adding guided meditations into their Reiki practice but are having difficulty with how to visualize. First of all, I would like to say to please do not take it personally if it is hard for you to visualize and yet extremely easy for another person. Although we are all humans our minds do operate a bit differently from each other and we have different ways we process things. Have you ever heard the term visual learner? Some people just happen to be more visual, some auditory, some hands on, and some a combination of all the different styles. I am more on the visual side of things but have a mix of all running through me. So please do not feel bad if visualizing does not come naturally to you! With that said it is very easy to get started practicing and learning how to do so.

Easy Method to work on visualization skills:

  •  First picture an item that you like. It could be a location, a person, a food, anything that works for you. A very popular one is the beach. I am going to use the example of a strawberry to show you how simple this method can be.
  •  Next, put your hand out in front of you, palm facing up. Imagine that you can see a big strawberry sitting in the palm of your hand. Do not let feelings of feeling weird or stupid come over you. They are blocks for allowing yourself to process things in a new way. Focus on the imaginary strawberry in your hand and notice all the small characteristic of it. Notice the deep red color, the light green stem, the small leaves circling the top. Are there brown marks on the leaves? Are there small spots on the strawberry? Are there any small imperfections? Can you smell a faint hint of strawberry or is it overwhelming and reminding you of strawberry pie? Let your mind go down this path and sit in this space for 5 min.
  • Practice this with different objects, colors and practice with picturing yourself in different locations such as the beach. Work up to the point where you can stay in the visualization/meditative space for 20 min. That’s it! ☺

This method is the best basic way I have found to help people who have difficulty trying to visualize. It can be done anywhere at any time but I would recommend doing it in a quiet, private location the first few times you try it. Some people find they are better able to visualize if they have soft, relaxing music playing in the background. If this is the case for you just type in “soft relaxing music” on youtube and you will have an assortment of free music to choose from.
