Why do you club Reiki with other modes of healing?
This is a question that many Reiki practitioners are asked from time to time.
Sometimes I am asked, “Is it mandatory to work with crystals or angels in Reiki practice?”
My answer is, “There are no rules. It is completely up to you.”
I am also asked “Why do you use other techniques in combination with Reiki? We don’t see a connection.”
My answer is, “Reiki showed me the path and I just followed.”
Many people find it hard to understand how modalities like angel healing, crystal healing and the like can be clubbed with Reiki. Others feel it is blasphemous to combine Reiki with other modes of alternate healing. They assert that Reiki is sacred and complete in itself.
Shades of the Same Energy
After doing my first degree in Reiki, I diligently practised daily self healing. Feeling the flow of the energy and making time for daily self healing were great accomplishments back then. I did not feel the need to seek other modes of alternate healing. Reiki felt complete in itself (which is true of course) and that was all I needed at that point.
It remained the same after the second degree. Coping with a healing crisis and handling all the life changes that Reiki brought about kept me occupied. The last thing on my mind was to experiment with any other form of healing.
It was just a year before doing the third degree that Reiki led me into unexplored territory. What started off as a limited experiment turned out to be a grand adventure that led me to realise one simple fact- Energy is energy. Period.
What this means is that all forms of healing are interrelated as the underlying energy remains the same.
Just as we have varying shades of the same colour, so do we have varying shades of the same Universal/ Divine/Healing energy. Depending on the need, this energy takes on different forms and fulfils different purposes.
Reiki is one such beautiful shade of an energy that is all pervasive. This shade took me into the world of other shades and taught me that no matter where I went, I was ultimately in contact with the same colour.
How it Happened
A year before doing the Master Degree, I was introduced to a technique known as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), which you might have heard of. This technique is particularly effective when we find ourselves in emotional turmoil. We are required to make some affirming statements as we tap on certain pressure points located on different parts of the body. By the end of the tapping session, we feel at peace with ourselves and reach a wonderful state of self acceptance. In this state, finding creative solutions becomes easy. I worked extensively with this technique for over a year.
Side by side, I also worked with something called the “I Am” meditation. All I had to do was close my eyes and keep my awareness on the presence “I Am” within me.
For almost a year, I worked simultaneously with Reiki, EFT and the I AM meditation. A lot of healing happened and the desire to do the Master Degree took birth along the way. In the third degree, I was introduced to techniques like aura scanning, violet flame healing, crystal healing etc. Initially, I just could not believe that I could actually scan auras and heal with the violet flame. However, as I practised on myself as well as others, I saw that the new techniques I had learnt had the power to bring about tremendous healing.
As I practised daily self healing with Reiki, the urge to learn more and more about healing became very strong. The first learning experience that came my way was a workshop on Past Life Healing. I had always been a little afraid of exploring past lives. But the Master Degree healed my fears. Suddenly, I found that I was not afraid of exploring past lives anymore. In fact, I was rather keen to explore my past lives. Incidentally, a random search on the web showed me that a Past Lives Workshop by a renowned teacher in India was scheduled in my city. I signed up for this workshop, which gave me new insights on healing across space and time. My practice of Reiki and the “I Am” meditation helped me tremendously while exploring past lives as it required one to enter deep levels of relaxation.
Soon after, I attended another course on Kundalini Energy and Chakra Healing. This course literally transformed my life. All the learning that had happened with Reiki healing supported me during this course and I learnt to work with energy like never before. This workshop had participants from varied fields of alternate healing. There were a few Reiki healers and several Non-Reiki energy healers as well. I noticed that even people who did not practise Reiki were able to work effectively with energy and followed all the instructions that were given without a problem. They were able to scan chakras and heal energy blocks. This was indeed an eye opener for me.
I realised that everyone has a unique path in life. There is no one path for everybody. Reiki is probably the best path for many of us. However, it may not be so for others. I also understood that healing can happen even when we use other techniques because the underlying principles of healing remain the same.
Some months later, I launched my Reiki practice. At this point, Reiki made me cross paths with angel healing. I was always drawn to working with the angels. However, attending a course on the same brought new insights and healing experiences. This further opened my eyes and I realised that this was just another variation of energy healing. The angels are nothing but energy forms vibrating at very high frequencies of unconditional love and peace. We humans are also bundles of energy vibrating at a different frequency.
As I learnt these different forms of healing and interacted with practitioners from other fields, I acquired a broad perspective. This perspective helped me seamlessly integrate various techniques of healing with my Reiki practice. It seemed most natural and effortless to me. It also made my healing practice a lot more beautiful and interesting.
So, coming back to the question, “Why do I club Reiki with other forms of healing?”
The answer remains, “Reiki showed me the path and I just followed!”
It was my daily practice of Reiki that brought about changes in me and also put me in the right places at the right time. It brought about precisely those learning experiences I needed at every point in time. The timing was always perfect. The teachers always appeared when I was ready for a particular learning experience. Workshops and courses were scheduled at the perfect moments. And this continues to happen even now!
This path of integration is right for me and also for several other Reiki practitioners who work in a similar way. Reiki is scared and complete in itself. There are many who work with Reiki alone and achieve fabulous results. But it helps to remember that there are no rules! Do what works for you. The beauty of Reiki is that it shows each one the path that is best for them. And no two paths are alike. Here’s hoping you make the most of the path best suited to you. Love & Blessings ☺

Loved what your wrote…I am a nurse who became a Reiki Master. With different holistic modalities and expanding to acupuncture, I knew Reiki needed to be part of my work with acupuncture…I am now doing Reiki Attunements with acupuncture activation of Chakras…I am sure this is what you found when raising the fire of kundilini up the spine and clearing/balancing chakras. I have done EFT and never thought to integrate that aspect with Reiki…I appreciate what you have written…I am sure what has been written by you will inspire hope for other Reiki practitioners to integrate their healing practices. Blessings to all
Thank you for sharing your experiences Diane! I am glad to know you found the article helpful. Love and Blessings 🙂
want to meet harpriya for Reiki
Hi, Please write to [email protected].
Dear Harpirya, thank you for the wonderful article. i had always been disoriented with respect to correct professional choice. like most of do i also studied and started working as that was the norm. i wanted to be in a creative field but could never open my wings as i cud not challenge the set norms and family expectations. i m in a good job but still have some void and craving to do somthing different.
sometime i want to quit , take risk and chase my dreams . sometime i feel the present set of life conditions are any small challenges. if i fulfil my responsibilties well that will be an achivement . and this confusions would never end.
How to find the purpose of life? how to find clarity?
i m a 2nd degree practictioner. I m very deep into spirituality.
Dear Nisha,
Just continue to practise daily self healing with Reiki. Reiki usually shows us the path. Probably where you are at the moment is right for you. It is probably helping you gain the experience to be where you would like to be.
You can also begin to take small action steps towards the things you desire. Even if you cannot dedicate your whole life to it at the moment, you can certainly find some time every day or a few hours every week to do the things that you wish to do. With time, you may be able to integrate it into your life’s purpose. So, take action and keep practising Reiki. Blessings 🙂
