Those of you who follow my blogs and journey will know this fact about me; I used to suffer from debilitating migraines. The migraines would have me out of action for a number of days. They were horrendous with the pain incapacitating. I could do nothing but curl up in bed with the curtains drawn, clutching a crystal to my head and praying that Reiki would work its wonders.
Some of you may know that I’m also a ‘survivor’ of depression/PTSD/Anxiety – although I don’t believe these conditions have left me entirely because on the rare occasion I will relapse into a state of deep darkness that I wonder what on earth I’m doing here. It can be overwhelming and so very lonely. Again Reiki has been my saviour.
However the truth be told, Reiki alone hasn’t help me to overcome these issues, although it has done wonders for me! Reiki has helped in so many ways and for that I am forever thankful. I have found something that works hand in hand with Universal Energy that has allowed me to feel better and get back on top. It’s called healthy eating, or rather eating those foods compatible with my body.
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” quote: Hippocrates, 460BC
Granted there is no diet that will ease clinical depression and/or migraines entirely and ‘cure’ you for eternity, however being very mindful of what you eat in conjunction with Reiki can bring about amazing results that may just keep you feeling marvellous 99% of the time.
Keep in mind it’d be a great idea to ‘see’ a nutritionist or as in my case a shamanic/medical intuitive/naturopath to work out what foods are good for you and what are not. For me foods such as strawberries, avocados, milk products, and certain nuts, are not good for my body. They actually poison my system, and so to keep ‘well’ – I avoid them. Once you have this information on what foods are good and bad for you, through assistance or even trial and error, you’ll begin to feel so much better.
Some great food ideas to assist with conditions such as migraines and depression are:
Sources of beta-carotene: apricots, broccoli, cantaloupe, carrots, collards, peaches, pumpkin, spinach, sweet potato
Sources of vitamin C: blueberries, broccoli, grapefruit, kiwi, oranges, peppers, potatoes, strawberries, tomato
Sources of vitamin E: margarine, nuts and seeds, vegetable oils, wheat germ
Good sources of healthy proteins: beans and peas, lean beef, low-fat cheese, fish, milk, poultry, soy products, yogurt
What I do on top of eating these good foods, is keep up my daily self-reiki as well as infusing Reiki into my food and water/drinks. I have a ritual at each meal of infusing glorious Reiki energy into the foods I’m about to consume, using the symbols of Dai Ko Myo, Cho Ku Rei, Sei He Ki, Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen mainly, along with some non-traditional reiki symbols as well. Whatever I am drawn to on the day, I will infuse into my food.
As you can see from the below pictures, I have created placemats for my food/drinks and with “intent” my food is constantly receiving beautiful reiki energy. How lucky do I feel each and every day, knowing that reiki energy is flowing through me and around me and is integral to my well-being.
The same can be said for eating healthy and exercising. This also keeps a person feeling good and in control of their health.
There are a number of ways to keep migraines and depression at bay and I have found clean eating and reiki the most effective for me.
I hope you have enjoyed this article.

Thanks for sharing Tammy, this came st a good time for me.
I have taken 2 degrees. I have my own crystals. But I m not familiar with the symbol do ko mayo…can I use it..
Thankyou Tammy for such a Beautiful insight to the Divine Energy Of Reiki… “Bliss”
Sangeeta, the Dai Ko Mayo is the MASTER symbol so until you reach that level and are attuned to the symbol unfortunately it won’t have any meaning to you and you wouldn’t be able to use it. Lori and Melissa I am so glad you found the article interesting. Love, light and harmony. Tammy x
Hi I am a Master Teacher and I love your placemat can you share what materials you used to make the placemat?, A sharpie of course but the mat itself were did you get it. Thank you for sharing your website
It’s just a large piece of paper (A3 size in Australia) and drew the pictures on and the laminated. It’s really, really easy. Think I answered this on the facebook page as well Clara <3 So glad you like the idea. Love, light and harmony. Tammy xxx
Love your placemat. I’m going to make one, just design on paper and laminate, should last a while?
Hello, Tammy. Thank you for your wonderful article.
I sent 11 Reiki distant sessions in 2013 to a woman, who in spite of she was a ”cosmos energy practitioner” suffered of migraines and low pressure side effects for the last 10 years. First sessions was good but migraines remained as usual. Then I asked her to see the definitions and causes of migraines and low pressure form the books “The Love Yourself Heal Your Life” by Louise L. Hay; Dr. Ruediger Dahlke’s books for discussing with me whether it looks like hers case or not. And it was!!! The sessions became more intensive when she found the roots of her low pressure. And lately, during one of the sessions I as though “hear” the cause of her migraines. It was like a voice that told me that she used to worry much about all the people around, as if she was always in a hurry whether she would be in time for helping for that man, that woman, those relative, non-known person and so on… Be she hardly used to love herself while she was spreading her love to everybody for years. When I told her my “insight” she said that was right about her. I recommend her to add in your life more positive affirmations – we started with “I LOVE AND APPROVE MYSELF”, she drank plenty of water while we were on with the Reiki treatment and after 11th sessions she was happy to write back that when she read all of that books definitions she totally got rid of migraines and low pressure side effects became more softer.
Many blessings to you, Tammy!
Thank you for sharing I’m now finding my body reacting to certain foods and now I’m learning to listen I’m relatively new to Reiki its a great journey.
If Reiki alone cannot heal that why practice it
I found this article interesting. I want to apply this technique for energising medicines.
Thank you for sharing wonderful article.
I have been told by my Reiki masters that you should not draw Reiki symbols physically but in your case it has been drawn on placemats…whether this could be done by Reiki practitioners or only Reiki Masters…Please clarify. Thanks
Hi Nivedita, I’m sorry to hear your Reiki Master has told you not to draw the Reiki symbols. I don’t understand why? There is absolutely no reason why you can not draw the symbols! In-fact I encourage my students to physically draw the symbols when they first learn them. That’s how they ‘get to know’ the symbols and get used to them. So right from Reiki 1 my students can physically draw them if they want to… that answers your question about if Practitioners or only Masters can draw them. Any practitioner can draw their own placemats, using whatever symbols they have been attuned to. I hope this clarifies things for you. Maybe you could ask your own Master why he/she has an issue with the symbols physically being drawn. Symbols are sacred but not secret so there is no issue.
I am a reiki master also, and can tell you that some reiki teachers tell the students the symbols ARE secret. I don’t agree with that, but my first teacher wouldn’t put them in her book or the handouts, but she handed out a picture for us to copy and return the handout. others say it doesn’t matter because they won’t work without the attunement. The japanese class says when you are really “there” you don’t even need the symbols. And frankly, I’m not sure about attunement!
Wow! I can’t believe they’d say the symbols are a secret! Those Reiki practioners who want to keep the practice of Reiki a secret from others, don’t want others to see the symbols, they’re the ones who, unfortunately, are making Reiki healing about monetary gain rather than healing people! Reiki is got everyone! It’s true that without an attunement, the symbols won’t mean much to you. And I also agree that when you get to a certain point, you don’t need the symbols. They can be helpful to direct specific energy, but I believe spirit, source, whatever your want to call it, hears me and knows what to send down. The symbols are a quick way to ask for that energy though.
I do think the symbols do help bring in the energy that they are for, regardless of Reiki attunement or not. Just like a peace symbol brings feelings out thoughts of peace, a heart, love. I do think the symbols can bring the energy. That’s just mho.
Namaste
Hi tammy..
I am attuned to level 1 reiki…i did my cleansing and didnot eat non-veg for 21 days after attunement…but after that i started eating non- veg again…..so this would affect my reiki ??
Hi Mona, I don’t think all Reiki masters or practitioners are vegetarian, so as long as you keep your diet as healthy and balanced as possible, then this is what is important. Keeping away from alcohol and cigarettes and soda drinks is important as well. Does this help answer your question? love, light and harmony. Tammy xx
Yes thanks alot tammy.
Great, I like the idea!!! i always apply reiki to food, but the idea of the placemates… for the entire family will be great, thank you for the information <3
I love reiki and think it can often make a person feel better, in some cases heal, but re migraines, I’d have gone to a neurologist and an allergist first. It is a well known fact that migraimes are often triggered by a food allergy, as yours apparently were. The neurologist would have first determined if the headaches were migraines or something else, and ruled our tumore, aneurisms, etc.
Such an interesting article!! I really think it`s a great idea with placements!
^^
Thank you

Lovely article! I always Reiki all of the food in my house, everything I cook, everything I make including medicines (herbal, crystal & Flower essences, etc). I do believe it makes the food stronger and healthier.

Hi Tammy,
I have learnt reiki 1st and 2nd level in 2005 and i did not complete my cleansing procedure since i lost my interest, since my teacher did not let me practise reiki healing on others, hence i did not know what happens when reiki is given as healing. Now my question here is do i need to get the session again since i have not been doing the reiki for last 10 years.
Thank you for your wonderful article and for sharing your knowledge
Hi Julie, I’m so glad you found the article interesting, and for taking the time to write. With warm hugs. Tammy xx
