As the world shifts from the Year of the Dragon into the Year of the Wood Snake, Reiki reveals how transformative this time truly is for our well-being and wellness.
The Connection Between the Dragon and the Snake
Revealing the connection of the astrological dragon and the astrological snake as both being a type of serpent. The former is known more as a fire serpent of various reiterations, whether as the Tibetan Fire Serpent or represented in the caduceus, one of two serpents twined around a Greek herald’s wand. This wand is associated with Hermes, the Messenger god, who is also a sign of Mercury and the establishment of society being in the contemporary Age of Aquarius at this time.
The nuances of Reiki’s connection to the herald’s wand, with the two twined serpents iconically being branded as this society’s medical/medicine symbol, originated from Asclepius mythology. Asclepius, a successor of Hermes, was revered in ancient Greece as a healing god with a cult that utilized and revered snakes. Profoundly, the similarities between the caduceus and the two twined serpents bear a resemblance to the double-helix symbolism, corresponding to imagery of our DNA as well.
Synchronicity and Kundalini Energy
This leads to a powerful synchronicity: the pair of twined serpents in the caduceus closely resemble the symbolism of Kundalini, which holds great potential for healing and raising our awareness of consciousness. Interestingly, in our present-day society, the practice of Kundalini yoga is steadily growing in popularity.
Pertaining to Kundalini, we have a mystical Shakti energy force at the base of our spines, lying dormant, anticipating activation in Divine timing through disciplined practice and reflection. As briefly mentioned, the Kundalini energy force is also depicted as a serpent, coiled at the base of the spine. Once activated, this energy travels through three distinct energy channels throughout our life force energy bodies, known as Nadis:
- Sushumna (center channel)
- Ida (left channel, associated with the feminine, intuition, or Shakti)
- Pingala (right channel, associated with the masculine, logic, or Shiva)
Kundalini is a creative energy reservoir that sits dormant, awaiting activation by esoteric disciplines like yoga—more specifically, Kundalini yoga. The importance of Kundalini activation is profoundly aligned with the unmanifested potentialities inside each and every person, often relating to sacred Divine feminine energies. Most importantly, it fosters the balancing and harmonizing of the sacred Divine Feminine and the sacred Divine Masculine in Divine Union.
The Role of the Nadis and Their Significance
As mentioned, there are 72,000 nadis, offering 72,000 choices of movement. The left side, Ida, represents the feminine energy, while the right side, Pingala, represents the masculine energy. Together, they form the fundamental duality of existence and the basis for life’s creation.
However, the Sushumna is perhaps the most profoundly important aspect of our human physiology. It is only when prana/ki energies enter the Sushumna that real life truly begins. Unfortunately, the vast majority of people live their entire lives in Ida and Pingala, never activating the Sushumna, which remains dormant and empty. Yet, the Sushumna offers infinite creative potential, allowing one to shape their reality.
When prana/ki energies enter the Sushumna, one attains Vairagya, a state of transparency and detachment, where all external labels and conditions no longer define one’s reality. In this state, one has the opportunity to explore other dimensions of life. This unique experience can also be observed during Reiki treatments, where prana/ki energies flow to bring balance, harmony, transformation, healing, and wholeness potential.
The Year of the Wood Snake: A Time of Growth and Transformation
The Year of the Wood Snake officially began on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, marking the Chinese New Year. In Traditional Chinese culture, snakes are respected as a positive sign, symbolizing wholeness potential, good fortune, harmonious outcomes, protection, and transformation.
Traditionally, encountering a snake crossing one’s path is considered a positive omen, bestowing blessings in the near future. Snakes teach us to harness inner potential, reminding us that good fortune is based on alignment with the natural rhythms of life, personal values, and intuition. Surprisingly, snakes are naturally meditative, deeply connected to spiritual dimensions while remaining open to the mysteries of life and existence. Their sensitive nature makes them highly attuned to their surroundings, fostering contemplation, strategy, patience, and precision.
Embracing the Wood Element in 2025
Because the Year of the Wood Snake includes the wood element, 2025 encourages growth, adaptability, and renewal. Just as spring’s tender buds emerge in newness, the wood element urges us to examine new possibilities while remaining rooted in spiritual principles.
As trees need strong roots to weather all conditions, the Wood Snake offers wisdom, teaching us to avoid rigidity or becoming entangled in overly ambitious endeavors. Just as with Reiki, Kundalini activation, and the transition into this new year, one must pace themselves, honor inner wisdom, and embrace growth and transformation.
By doing so, these powerful attributes will be harnessed well beyond 2025, guiding us into a future of balance, healing, and spiritual awakening.
