As a Reiki practitioner, I have had the privilege to give Reiki to Cancer patients, the following was my very first experience and soon to be my mission to help as many clients as possible who are receiving Chemotherapy.
I was asked to make an emergency house call to a client who was severely constipated days after receiving Chemotherapy. I had never met the client and was not sure what to expect, and then my guides told me NOT to expect anything and to go in with an open mind.
I took my singing bowls, water chimes, sage, and spray sage (in case the client is allergic to smoke), to cleanse the home. When I got to the residence, I immediately placed my Reiki symbols upon the front door – Cho Ku Rei (CKR) 3 x– Sei He Ki (SHK) 3 x, then Cho Ku Rei again (CKR) 3 x known as the Reiki sandwich.
I met his wife who knew about Reiki and requested I meet with her husband. She was extremely worried that he was not able to use the restroom and his abdomen was beginning to extend outwardly from being severely constipated. I advised her that I could not make any promises as to the outcome of the Reiki session, but I was willing to help provide Reiki to her husband. She understood and was just grateful that I came to the house as quickly as possible. I had her sign my Reiki Release form and went to meet her husband.
When I entered the house I could feel the heavy energy around his room. I again placed the Reiki Symbols CKR + SHK+ CKR on his door before I entered. I could see he was visibly in pain and was extremely bloated. I introduced myself and asked him permission to give him a Reiki Session and use sound instruments. He reluctantly agreed and I began my Reiki session.
First I went around the room placing my Reiki symbols on all the walls and sprayed my sage as well. I asked Dr. Usui, my guides, Ascended Master, and loved ones to help me to be a clear conduit (vessel) for the Reiki to go through me and to help the client for his highest and best.
I started the Reiki session and he immediately had movement in his legs and feet, I began to work in the abdominal area and used a water chime to help move the water around in his intestines to help him be able to use the restroom. I kept checking in on him to make sure he was doing ok. He responded yes “I feel warm sensations in my arms and legs”. I told him the energy of Reiki sometimes can be warm, cold, and sometimes not even felt but reassured him the Reiki was flowing through his body.
I thanked him for allowing me to give him a Reiki session, and spoke briefly with his wife, reminding her to make sure he drank plenty of water throughout the day. I received a phone call later that day that he was finally able to use the restroom and if I would be willing to come after every Chemotherapy session. This was my very first experience with a client who was currently undergoing Chemotherapy.
On the next visit, the client was more cheerful about the Reiki session, in fact, we would have more discussions about Reiki. He told me that he was able to sleep better after our sessions. He said, “Whatever you are doing I thank you.” I told him that I am only a conduit for the Reiki to flow through.
Despite his eventual passing several months later, our Reiki sessions provided him comfort and relief from pain. I hope this helps you to feel more comfortable when working with Cancer clients. I know this experience will forever be imprinted into my heart.

Maria,
Thank you for sharing your experience.
I recently started volunteering at a facility that offers many programs to patients undergoing cancer treatments (as well as their family members and caregivers). One of the programs is Reiki, which I feel blessed to be a part of.
So far I have worked with about a dozen people, mostly patients; one recent lady spoke of her issues with constipation. While I know everyone has different experiences and outcomes after Reiki sessions, I am hopeful that those I work with are able to have some relief, as yours did (and no doubt will continue to do).
In warmth,
Andrea
