Have you noticed how frequently a client’s energy field feels different on the right side, than the left side of the body – even when the corresponding body parts are associated with the same chakra? It can be surprising when one side of the head has strong, positive energies, while the other side feels heavy, or depleted. Or, when one foot feels grounded, and the other does not.
One explanation is that the right side of the body holds energies that are closely associated with what we define as the traditional masculine traits, while the left side is associated with the feminine traits. Generally, masculine characteristics such as assertiveness, determination, decisiveness, and the ability to move forward create positive energies. Other masculine traits, such as aggressiveness, obstinance, impulsivity and recklessness may carry negative energies.
Likewise, traditional feminine characteristics can have positive and negative energies associated with them. Compassion, nurturance, thoughtfulness and generosity are positive, while weakness, instability, and being satisfied with the status quo may foster negative energies. Sometimes, a focus on the past may be emphasized, making it difficult to move forward in life.
These characteristics have little to do with the gender of the person, although our societies may continue to encourage children to focus on the traditional characteristics of their gender. For us to develop into well-balanced human beings, positive masculine and feminine characteristics need to exist within us. As you study each chakra’s aspects, you will see that each one has traits from both gender-related groups. An example of this would be the Root chakra. The masculine trait could be feeling secure and firm in your job; the feminine trait could be feeling connected to the loving energies of Mother Earth.
Let’s examine this case scenario: A young woman came in for a Reiki session, stating she is having anxiety and sleeplessness. The energy around her head felt overwhelming and overstimulated, and her mind could not relax. The throat chakra was simply depleted. Her heart chakra area was resplendent with loving energy on the left side, but not the right. The entire right side of her body, beginning with the solar plexus, and going down to the sole of her right foot held many blockages; the energies felt heavy, and stuck. The left side was totally the opposite.
During the session, there was much releasing of negative energies, and a replacement of loving, light energies. After the treatment ended, the client disclosed she is in the process of a difficult divorce. She does not know how she will be able to forge a life for her and her young daughter; she feels uncertain about moving forward. At the same time, she made many strong statements that she will find a way to make it work out, that she will make sure she creates a secure and loving environment for her little girl.
Her explanation fit her energies, perfectly. She knew she has to bring calmness into her life and home; she wants to find her equilibrium again. A Reiki session was the perfect choice, as the focus is on energy balancing and healing.
Reiki treatments help all of us in developing positive characteristics, thoughts and feelings. Reiki is a gift that always assists on living a balanced life.
