Who is a Reiki Grandmaster?
Reiki Grandmaster is a person who has been in the practice for years and has almost reached the Buddha stage.
How did Grand Master Level come into existence?
Though in Usui Traditional Reiki we have Grandmaster Level, it was not introduced by Mikao Usui himself. Grandmaster Level was developed by a Reiki Master in Berlin, Germany and a Qui Gong practitioner. They saw the Qui Gong energy could be channeled in the same way as that of Reiki and the new level of Grandmaster came into existence. Originally the level had no symbols, it was much later the symbols were channeled as it was though the symbols would bring in more energy and can be used for initiating people into the system.
Reiki Master/Reiki Master Teacher/Reiki Grand Master
Reiki Master Healer and Reiki Master Teacher was originally only one level and Mrs. Hawayo Takata would charge $10000 for initiating a master. In original Reiki there was no Grandmaster Level and Mrs. Takata never taught it. It was only later the master Level was divided into 2 parts Master Healer and Master Teacher, now popularly known as Level 3A and Level 3B. Some people divide it further into 3A,3B and 3C. Where in 3A only the master symbol is given, 3B attunement of Level 1 and 2 is taught and in 3C attunement of Master Level is taught.

Some people have taken it a notch up further and added to the confusion that a person can only attune Master Teachers if they are themselves Reiki Grand Master. Which is a wrong notion; if that was the case there would be no Reiki Teachers before Reiki Grandmaster level came into existence. I do not say Reiki Grandmaster is a level not needed, one may do so if they want to, but it is not necessary to attune someone to Reiki Master Teachership. There are many people who teach attunement to Teachersip only in Grandmaster level, which is not correct. Like I say a PhD. Scholar can always acts as a guide to a Research Scholar so they become a PhD. Scholar. A person need not do Post PhD to guide a Research Scholar to turn into a PhD scholar.
As per my opinion there is only one Reiki Grandmaster on this earth who is Phyllis Furumoto – Granddaughter of Mrs. Hawayo Takata, who sits in the Reiki Head office.

The only problem is that Mrs Furumoto declared herself Reiki Grandmaster during the first and greatest western Reiki schism. I think she’s not the best example of what a real Reiki Grandmaster should be, if really one exist.

As rightly pointed out by Neehon, Ms Furumoto is a self proclaimed Grandmaster. Mrs Takata never chose any successor. There was a letter written by one the people who studied under her, who was present when the first alliance was formed, in the letter she states that Ms Furumoto took on the mantle because she realized there was great money.
Sadly, the few so called Grandmasters I have interacted with are so full of themselves, the whole concept of humility in Reiki is lost, I can’t see the Buddha stage at all. Reiki is turning into a cult where you have blind followers.
As Usui Reiki Practitioners we need to get out of this mindset that we need Grandmasters, we need to cleanse chakras, etc. Usui Reiki is very powerful in itself, daily self practice (hand positions), meditating on the symbols (3 for Level 2 & 4 for Masters) cleanses chakras & auras & cuts all negative unwanted etheric cords.
All that is required of oneself complete faith and realize that get in notions like you need to do more is fear based.

I totally agree. Reiki is the life force that we all sustain within our bodies and that you develop as far as you can within the teaching that is available or accessible and that depends on your own level of learning and growth. Everything is inside our own light spheres before even starting courses or thinking about reiki. We need to learn how to use the ability that is already within. Marcus oneill. there are no grandmasters in Reiki. and we wont enter thge Buddha stage he is an Ascended Master we are no where near this stage. To be Reiki one needs to put ego aside and care about others unfortunately ego seems to get in the way of what Master Usui wished.

I think too many people get caught up in titles and degrees when in the end. Intention and the power of reiki and the universe is still there. Who cares if your a reiki grand master if your intention is just for the money
I hope the author knows that Phyllis tried to copyright reiki and formed an elitist culture around reiki which has hurt the tradition BADLY.
The only REAL grand master of reiki is the one who teaches rightly with love and wisdom.
if there was a test determine such levels why not I tg hink anyone can achieve reiki without a teacher as what happened too me I first discovered for my self through self learning on a book called Chinese medicine where I later was meditateing and the symbols revealed too me I later coward over books drawn like a moth too a flame. you can tell a teacher or a master by the vibration tone depend on how ones sence’s are trained. I believe people should question a teacher or master for if a true master or grandmaster is just. then there should not be a problem. imo not saying anyone is right or wrong but what is a teacher or grandmaster but a student. be full of ones self rather not at all humility sure acceptance of all
